I am running Win98 with McAfee Virusscan, Firewall and Privacy. I also have
Spywareblaster, Adaware, CWShredder and Spybot. Two times over the 8 months
since I installed this security arsenal, I have logged off the internet to
find a blank icon on my desktop. I deleted and shredded them both times, but
I would like to know if this was a form of malware. The last time it
happened, I looked at the properties of the blank icon and found that it was
an archive file. There was no name for the icon, just a '~' symbol. I scanned
with Mcafee, Adaware and Spybot. No problems were found and my computer is
functioning normally, although slightly slower than usual (I only have 32 mg
of ram). Any ideas what caused the blank icon to appear? Any thoughts would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Bryan

When all else fails, HijackThis v1.99.1
(http://aumha.net/downloads/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
