You might also want to post in one of the newsgroups dedicated to Microsoft
AntiSpyware as referenced to in the links below that Microsoft actively
monitors from what I understand and contains a lot of feedback on
AntiSpyware.

You might try to close other running programs before you run AntiSpyware to
see if that helps. If booting into Safe Mode improves performance then there
is another application or process that is interacting with AntiSpyware to
cause poor performance. Task Manager can help by showing what applications
are currently running on a computer. --- Steve
