I am a computer user but not an expert by any means. I use Norton
Anti-Virus' latest version and it has never failed me before. However, in
reading threads on the maintenance page, I got the impression people referred
to the Norton utility with derision. Should I be using something else when
my latest purchase expires in August?
Thanks for any help or suggestions!

This is really your decision. Most of us in the tech industry (who don't
sell NAV) don't like either Norton or McAfee products. They are
bloated, invasive, and slow even the fastest computer down. I don't
think they are as effective as other products and can cause issues with
other software, the operating system, and networking. But if it works
for you....
Recommended antivirus programs are Kaspersky, NOD32, and if you want
free versions AVG or Avast. For free versions, I prefer Avast. Both AVG
and Avast have paid-for versions, too.

My gripe about Norton and McAfee is not that they don't catch viruses but
the other things they do to slow down systems and screw up mail, especially
Outlook Express, which is rather easy to screw up.

If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options Get Kaspersky (www.kaspersky.com), it's widely regarded as possibly the best
antivirus. It's easy to use, detects anything and even sans all web traffic
in real time. It's also light on resources.
