If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options

First try taking ownership of the files.

If that doesn't work, you can always retrieve the files with Knoppix, a
Linux distro that runs from CD. Knoppix will ignore XP permissions and
you can get the files and then just copy them to your new hard drive.
