Have you rebooted since installing AVG? Did you uninstall your previous
anti-virus application? What was it?

Control Panel > Security Center > Change the way... (lower left) > Virus
Protection: Is this checked?

Did you have another antivirus before?Did you uninstalled it?

Is your AVG the latest version ? You can download the latest version from
here:
http://free.grisoft.com

Then , if you have the latest version , make sure you have this ON
(important especially if you had Norton) .
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Security Center

Now click on "Change the way ..." Make sure you have all the three checked !

Then , restart and this should fix .

However, if you still have problems, your computer can be infected by
malware (malicious software) that disables your antivirus or the Security
center of Windows XP.

Start -> Settings- > Control Panel -> Internet Options

There ,on the General Tab you will see where you can delete

• internet temporary files
• cookies
• history
Delete them all.

To make sure , visit
http://www.activescan.com
and perform full scan using Panda's free ActiveScan to check for ALL kind of
threats.

When the scan is finished , the scanner will allow you to save the report
from the scan.It is basic TXT file so save it on your Desktop and then post
the results here so we'll see if you have malware in your computer.
