After 6 months of not having my computer I got it back and when I
turned it on I knew I had to update everything. AVG included. When I
clicked on the update for the AVG it told me that my AVG that I was
out of date (7.1) to update to 7.5. I downloaded it and went to
install it, I kept getting this error that said another program was
using this file. I don't have the specific file but it ended
in .lng. I tried uninstalling and deleting the program but know
success.

I'm very frustrated. Are there any suggestions on what I can do or
what should I do to shut these programs down so I can finish updating.

Thanks for helping.
Jen

If anyone is reading my messages this is the actual error that I'm
getting during instalation:

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for file avg7us.lng: creating backup....
The process cannot access the file because it is being
used by another process. (32) %DESTINATION% = "C:\Program Files
\Grisoft\AVG Free\avg7us.lng.install_backup", %SOURCE% = "C:\Program
Files\Grisoft\AVG Free\avg7us.lng"
Error 0x80004004

Can someone tell me what is wrong so I can properly upgrade from 7.1
to 7.5.
Thanks

According to the error, the file in question "is being used by another
process." What is the other process? My first thought would be the
antivirus. Try stopping the antivirus services and updating. If that
does not work, restart the services and try to determine what is
holding the process open.

I would use Handle to figure out which process has the file open.
Then, find the process in Taskman. Right-click the process, and select
End Process Tree. Once done, run your upgrade.

Hope that helps,
