I think he's asking what software can be used to see what ports are
open. If that's the case then:

Run netstat -a at the command prompt

or use MS Baseline Security Analyzer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/tools/mbsahome.mspx

or use TCPView from SysInternals:
http://www.sysinternals.com/NetworkingUtilities.html
