Hello,

I would be most grateful if anyone could provide me with the best way to
setup an ADSL router to an existing network, thus, creating 2 separate
subnets.

Users on the second subnet must be able to access the Internet only, but not
access resources on the first subnet.

Lets suppose the 2 routers are netgear ADSL routers. What would be a typical
ip addressing scheme for both subnets and how would these be entered in each
router with regards WAN and LAN IP Addresses, as well as DHCP configuration
or static?

Many thanks to all who view and reply to my question(s)
Jason

This is not a Windows security issue.

Please post to relevant newsgroups, such as one for
general (not necessarily a Microsoft forum) networking.

The ADSL Device would have nothing to do with creating or managing two
subnets.

This would be controlled by the LAN Router that is between them.

ADSL Device are not "real" routers,...they are just NAT Firewalls the same
as the more expensive Cisco PIX, Watchgaurd Firebox, etc. It was a bad
choice for the Marketing Departments involved to call these things
"routers".

You need this design:

LAN#1-->[LAN Router]-->LAN#2-->[ADSL Firewall]

Host on both subnets would all use the LAN Router as the Default Gateway by
using the IP# that faces their respective segment..

The LAN Router would have an ACL that says anything from LAN#1 will be
denied if the "target" is an IP# for LAN#2. This should not effect traffic
where the "target" is outside the system. The LAN Router would also use the
ADSL Device as it "Default Gateway"

The ADSL Device needs a Static Route added to it that tells it that in order
to reach LAN#1 it has to use the LAN Routers IP# that faces LAN#2
