i have a virus that doesn't activate until i update my computer. i've only
had it happen twice, so i can't be sure, but the first time was when i
updated norton to 2005 and downloaded all of the updates, and then reboot
like it said. then it would load to the login screen, and as soon as i logged
in, it would restart. after a while of trying different things, i had nothing
else to do except do a system restore. then i decided to try to update my
computer from service pack 1 to service pack 2, and after all of it
downloaded, i reboot. then it would try to load to the login screen, and
constantly restart, so i had to do another system restore. is there a way to
fix my computer, or am i going to have to get a new one (or not update my
comp and just use it as it is)?

What happened when you ran your antivirus program?

i downloaded all the updates that 2005 asked for, but it wouldn't run. the
2003 will, but before i restored the 2005 wouldn't even work.

it wouldn't run, and when i went into safe mode (which no longer appears as
an option when i press f8) it said that something was wrong/missing. since
then i have uninstalled norton and installed another anti virus software (a
30 day trial) and have scanned and deleted all viruses it could find, and
have also used spybot and an anti adware program to get rid of those, (along
with a^2 program). i don't seem to have windows installer anymore, so i am
trying to get it thru school since no matter how many times i validate my
comp it doesn't show the download icon for windows installer redistribution.
i think that i might try to install service pack 2 soon. oh, and along with
not seeing an option for safe mode, i don't see an option for shuting down my
computer at the log in screen.
