Hi,

My computer is infested by 3000+ spywares.
I've run different anti spyware scans to remove all of them.
However, the registry and many system files are all damaged.

For instances, whenever I click Start->Search, it crashes. I cannot do a
system restore. I cannot enable Windows Firewall. etc., etc.

So, how do I get the computer to run again?

Since you mention the Windows Firewall, I assume you have some version
of XP. XP is a far more robust operating system than Win9x/ME which
makes formatting/clean installing a last resort. However, with that
many infections, I would consider formatting the drive and clean
installing Windows. If you are absolutely sure the machine is 100%
virus and malware-free, you could start by trying a Repair Install. If
that doesn't work, then do the clean install. Remember that formatting
will erase all data on the drive, so you will need to reinstall
programs from installation media and restore data from backups
afterwards.

You can try a Repair Install if you can find a friend with the same
version of XP (and same Service Pack level) that you have. It may have
to be an OEM version that is not BIOS-locked to another mftr.'s
motherboard. I would back up any data you have first.
