We keep getting emails from someone/something called webmaster@verizon.net .
We seem to get at least one a day, but sometimes more than one or two a day.
Already today, and it is not yet 9:45am, we have received four of these. It
seems that this has been happening more since I changed from Norton
antivirus to McAfee antivirus. All of these emails today have carried a
McAfeeEmailScanReport.text.

Here are the texts of this mornings emails from webmaster@verizon.net :

Well since you're posting to a newsgroup using your Verizon email address,
you know that your email account hasn't been suspended. Sounds like
spam/phishing emails that you're receiving. Contact Verizon and see what
they say. Don't click the links in the email.

What 'Fritz' posted. Similar pishing messages are sent to other larger
ISP's as well. And there are Paypal pishing messages, and Bank pishing
messages, and ... The change in antivirus programs is concidental.

Further using your valid email address identity when posting to a newsgroup
makes it available to phishers, spammers, and worms who harvest email
addresses from newsgroups. The change in antivirus programs is concidental.

Unless you are prepared to deal with the email from pishers, spammers, virus
spreaders, and worms that email to the address you use in postings like
this, set up an invalid identity in your newsreader. There are reserved
domain names that are guaranteed not to be valid, and thus possibly
belonging to a legitimate user; two are 'invalid.com' and example.com'. If
you don't use this precaution, the email address you use WILL receive
malicious messages. During the rapid spread of one worm, 'Swen', it took
less than an hour between posting to a newsgroup (with a never before used
email address identity) and receiving an infected message generated by the
worm (which each infected machine harvested from Usenet news servers.)

As I indicated in the PRIVATE Verizon adsl News Group, this is most likely a
MyTob email
worm variant.

It has nothing to do with your email cleient except maybe McAfee is catching
better ;-)

You need to setup email rules to auto-delete these emails if they bother you.

Fitz is exactly correct. These emails are just scams to try and get you to
click on links or go to disreputable sites.
