Hello,

I am working on a program in which the front end and back end
talk to each other through a socket, so that triggers Norton AV on
a lot of people's systems. Sure, the user can click through the
warning but some people make the wrong choice and then they
have trouble undoing it. It would be better overall if we can avoid
notifying users in the first place.

Is there any way to register the application with Norton and/or any
other popular antivirus s/w makers? I'm hoping it can be arranged
so that the application is recognized as OK (thus obviating the
need to ask the user).

It seems like antivirus s/w must come with some sort of built-in list,
otherwise you would get warnings popping up all over the place ...

Maybe this registry business is just wishful thinking on my part.
If so, please feel free to tell me.

Thanks for any information on this topic.

Robert:

That's a very Symantec/Norton specific question and the following News Group may
be better
for addresing this issue; symantec.support.winnt.nortonantivirus.general
