Microsoft posted, dated 10/23, a pdf titled the

Microsoft Security Intelligence Report
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1c443104-5b3f-4c3a-868e-36a553fe2a02&displaylang=en

This details the "as experienced" trends in the malicious software
arena for the first half of '06, is a quite interesting read (if you are
into such things that indicate the hostility of the environment) and
virtually certainly is based on the largest real-world sample ever
used in such an analysis.

I must say that as an "Intelligence Report" I find it a little too much
of a marketing exercise for MS products.

I am particularly irritated by the following. *All* customers are
recommended to use a firewall "such as Windows Firewall" (which doesn't
filter outgoing traffic, AFAIK). However, *corporate* customers - not
*private* customers - are recommended to filter outgoing network
traffic - which Windows Firewall won't do..

Does MS think that private persons are not at risk from e.g. Trojan
keyloggers?

Not to mention the fact that the term "Microsoft Intelligence Report" is on
a par with "Military Intelligence", "Happy Marriage" etc. : } Can you say
"oxymoron"? Good, I knew you could.

Hi,

The fact that Microsoft dares to use the words "security" and
"intelligence" in the same sentence are frankly hilarious!
