norton tech support really sucks.

Whenever I open an office app, I get two dialog boxes "Please wait while
Windows configures Norton antivirus 2005", then on top of that "Norton
Antivirus 2005 does not support the Repair feature, please uninstall and
reinstall". When I click ok on the second box, they go away and the office
app opens. When I first installed norton av 2005 in Dec 2004, it gave the
exact same dialog boxes every time that I booted my pc. Norton tech support
told me than that it was either I moved def files (how or why I would do
this??) or is was a corrupted def download and that I would need to
uninstall and reinstall norton av. Which I did, and after several more def
updates it started the same dialog boxes at boot.
Each time that I contacted tech support they gave me the same solution. When
I asked why I need to keep doing this, that never got a response from them.
Finally, the seventh time, I just left it and closed the dialog boxes at
each boot. Six uninstall / reinstalls was more then enough. Especially,
since it was obvious that the seventh would lead to the eighth, to the
ninth, etc. I asked again about the need to keep doing this, and their
response was that either I moved def files or it was caused by a corrupted
def download.

Last month I formatted my HDD and reinstalled my xp pro and norton, and now
I get the exact same dialog boxes as I used to get at boot, but now I get
them when I open an office app. Note, not every time I open an office app,
but
more then 90% of the time. To this norton says that they need more info,
since I did not make myself clear. I said what I said above and offered to
send a screen shot. Then just asked for more info and no mention of SS. So,
I sent it with further / greater detail of my condition about three weeks
ago and no response.

Now I have another issue, and I see that tech support is no longer
available. I have had it set to do a full scan every Friday, since it was
installed, but the last two Fridays it did not.

Another issue that was actually a forerunner to the above two is that it
finds file del6.tmp threat adware.180Search and file del6.tmp threat
adware.zangosearch, both items info "The file
E:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-682003330-1004336348-2147153767-1003\De3\Del6.tmp is a
Adware threat.". Now my global recycle bin is empty, However each partition
has a recycler directory and E:\Recycler dir has a dir called
S-1-5-21-682003330-1004336348-2147153767-1003, but looking in that dir I
find no De3\Del6.tmp These were first found by norton av shortly after it
was installed. Norton does have a tool to get rid of 180search, but this
tool does not find it. Their instructions to remove zango is to go to
add/remove and remove it, but it is not there. Tech support just said that
norton av removes virus' not adware.

I have had several updates to my spybot, ad-adware, and spywareblaster and
they do not find those. Any ideas? What happens if I delete my E:\Recycler
contents?

The recycler directory preserves deleted files so that they can be
undeleted. If you empty the recycler directory, the files in it will soon
(as the released space is used) no longer be able to be undeleted. What did
you think the recycler directory did?

As for the 'Please wait while Windows reconfigures....', message, you
haven't given enough information, but just guessing that by 'office app' you
mean an Microsoft Office application, try reinstalling Microsoft Office.

Or do nothing and keep complaining.

Dear Paul, Mr.Weldon has written what the recycler directory do.
It keeps the files that you have deleted and then you many empty the Recycle
bin so all files will be deleted.

For the help you are looking for,you are welcome to have a look at my post.
Nice day !

More info? How about the identification of the programs you were starting
when Norton gave the error message?
Did you try reinstalling Microsoft Office, or did I guess wrong as to what
you meant by 'office app'.

Yes, you were complaining. You placed more emphasis on your dissatisfaction
with Symantec customer support than on information that might help indicate
a solution.
