does microsoft provide a free download tool to get rid of this very annoying
thing? I tried to download add ins for messenger, but the link wouldn't work,
so I downloaded what I thought was a new version. I have got rid of most of
it, but it is still around. How do you get rid of it without going though 150
complicated steps and maybe harming my computer?

I'm assuming here, that you installed Messenger Plus and accepted his
'sponsor' program. There should be an option in your Add/Remove
Programs for removing this. It will most likely be called C2Media or
something like that.

However, if you've already used SpyBot or another antispyware program,
you broke the uninstaller.

You may find some more information about how to remove Lop from this
link

although, as I mentioned earlier, I would try to uninstall it first.
Also, you can try uninstalling MSGPlus, and reinstalling it (choosing
NOT to accept his 'sponsor').

Please download, install and update the following software...

Ad-aware SE v1.06

SpyBot Search and Destroy v1.4
http://security.kolla.de/

After the software is updated, I suggest scanning the system in Safe Mode.
