That link redirects me to:

http://www.pandasoftware.com/

which is the correct Panda homepage. Since I don't run Windows on this
box, there is no question that my computer has been infected and/or
captured to be taken elsewhere. However, the redirection may happen
because the webpage coding recognizes that I'm not running Windows and
can therefore not install any ActiveX components necessary to run the
online scan.

If you are having difficulties reaching any online scanners, the
infection(s) you presumably have are probably preventing you. This is
common malware behavior. If you believe your computer is infected, I
don't recommend online scanners anyway. Scanning for and removing
malware should be done in Safe Mode where there is a greater chance the
infectors will not be active. Instead, go through these general malware
removal steps systematically:

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, plus Ewido. Do all
prep/finishing work and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe
Mode.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

Ewido anti-spyware 4.0 will now continue under the new product name AVG
Anti-Spyware 7.5. AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 contains the same ewido technology,
but with some further enhanced features:

Highly improved cleaning
Lower resource usage
Additional languages supported

All current licenses for ewido anti-spyware 4.0 will continue to be valid,
and users can change over to the new AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 for free

At the moment (of posting) it works for me . Sometimes when Panda servers
are busy or there is another issue the site/services they offer will report
error on page ->which means they are temporary unavailable . Try now .

If infections are found on your computer , you can post here the scanner's
report . After the scan it will generate a report , save it on your Desktop .
It is TXT file (activescan.txt) . Open it and using COPY/PASTE post it here .
We'll help you if your computer is infected :)

Appears to be a legitimate free
scan-and-report-but-don't-actually-disinfect-without-buying-the-product.

Scanning my system it did find a couple of scum-cookies in an old
partition that I hadn't checked.
But it also found ten false positives. All these are text files put
through the old unix 'compress' but
Panda apparently finds bit patterns in the compressed result and thinks
it has found threats.
That worries me what it would do if it were the full product and
torched my compressed files.
(Fry's was giving Panda Internet Security free-after-rebate this week,
if you want to play that game)
The box claims that Panda soaks up fewer cycles than Norton or Mcafee.
