hello everyone

i m a layman in computer and hope to seek some expert advice here.
apologies for unprofessional description below.

i discovered some hackers disturbing my home IBM computer for months. first
he just disconnect my LAN card so that i cant connect to internet, as i found
out under my computer -- system--installation manager -- LAN & reconnect it
myself. then seeing this cant work anymore, he increased my cpu usage by
methods i dont know to over 100% (as i found out pressing ctrl-shift-alt
windows task manager), paralyzing my computer virtually cant carry out any
functions even going to websites). from task mgnr i try deleted some
dumpprep.exe tasks using much memory & computer work again. recently he uses
methods i dont understand again, could just turn down (instant shut down like
power off not logging out at all) my computer any time he want. incidentally
the computer also shuts up ghostly when i played computer games, not sure if
it's for bigger operations or hackers reason. i dont know what's wrong this
time & have to disconnect power supply, wait out some time & restart computer
again. during which the harddisk very noisy.

i have inquired norton but was replied that their products cant fix the
problem & ask me to go to system administrator (???). the hacker not only
continue to disturb me by shutting down my computer at wish. i culdnt even
perform a free scan of virus online or system recovery back to earlier date
offline using own IBM access installed. maybe i just ignore him & restart my
computer at later time. lately he even dared to remove (or uninstalled not
only disabled previously as he knows i know how to connect it back)
completely my lan card as i cant see any under my computer -- system --
installation manager & i dont know how to put it back. but hours later he
installed it back himself.

i accidentally found this forum yesterday and signed up thinking of asking
question here. he noticed it and he made my computer (again by methods i
dont understand) cant sign in here! so i have to go to another place to post
this question now.

well, if even norton said her products useless. would any expert kind
enough to give me some advice what i should do & how to solve this problem
once & for all.

your attention to the above will be greatly appreciated.

(snip very long "my computer's been hacked" story)

If everything you say is true, disconnect the computer from the Internet
and any local area network and do a clean install of Windows. Back up
your data first since everything will be removed during the clean
install.

http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#reinstall_Windows - What
you will need on-hand

After Windows is installed, install drivers one at a time. Make sure
that the drivers you install are from a trustyworthy source such as the
OEM's website. Do not connect to the Internet until XP Service Pack 2
has been installed and the Windows Firewall is active. Install programs
one at a time and only from trusthworthy sources. Install a good
antivirus and update its definitions. Scan any backed up data before
putting it on your clean hard drive.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting
this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a professional
computer repair shop (not your local version of BigStoreUSA).

thanks alot for yr help. i'll give a try. btw do u think it's possible to
track down to identities of hackers. i hv reasons to believe their intention
is malicious & threatening. esp in view i m in finance profession. to see
if i could report to police for investigation.
