I was accessing a web support forum page
http://www.namo.com/support/forum/ and after logging in had a popup ask
me permission to install " activesquare6 " . I did not permit it but
the popup would appear every time I tried to enter something.

Is activesquare6 a virus or Trojan of some sort? I could not find much
about it on the web.

Thanks.

Apparently it is malware. Go through these general malware removal steps
systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, plus AVG Anti-Spyware
(formerly Ewido - http://www.ewido.net/en/) and follow instructions to
do all scans in Safe Mode.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no
shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA). Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at
removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested
that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all your data backed
up before you take the machine into a shop.

Thanks Malke. I did not permit it to install itself, so even though the
forum is apparently infected, I am not because my multiple defense
systems kicked in and alerted me to the malware trying to install
itself.

I've run thorough virus and malware checks on my PC (after clearing the
cache, etc.) and I seem to be clean. That support forum works
erratically and I guess that is because it is infected. Not finding
anything about activesquare6 on searching the web I was not sure if it
might be a legit program needed to make the forum work correctly. But
my caution did not let it install itself. Have you ever heard of it?

I had not heard of ActiveSquare6 before your post, but I immediately did
a Google search for "ActiveSquare6". Although many of the posts were not
in English (so I couldn't read them), many referenced the forum you
visited and one of the posts was from an antispyware forum (English)
which I respect. That link showed the OP going through a HijackThis log
and being uninfected by the forum helpers. Ergo, my advice to you.

As an aside to be fair, the original forum where you posted (and got the
ActiveSquare6 prompt) may be legitimate but hacked. It is not uncommon
for forums to be hacked, particularly if they are using vulnerable
unpatched forum software.
