Microsoft programmers/ lurkers, WE NEED HELP ON THIS ONE! Your anti-spyware
program isn't fixing this. I'm running McAfee, and have tried numerous
"fixes" offered in this and other forums, SOME of which appear to be bogus
ways to load EVEN MORE Winfixer adware onto my machine. The adware has
multiple modes -- it not only pops up ads for numerous products, it will
hijack an existing screen. Every time I think I've got it whipped, up pops
another screen. Furthermore, most users aren't nearly sophisticated enough
to try all the various "fixes" offered in these forums invovling editing
registries, downloading software from relatively unknown authors, etc. . We
need a blessed, Symantec, McAfee, or MICROSOFT solution to this horrendous
piece of adware. What amazes me is that it isn't "FAMOUS" in the news yet
since it's so damaging and so incredibly hard to remove. This is going to be
a major trojan/adware infection for ALL PC users unless the major anti-virus
manufacturers GET ON IT RIGHT AWAY. I'd like to hear from MICROSOFT directly
on this one, my email address is easy enough to find on the web. Wade Nelson

I'm sorry, "Sharon," but I don't trust you either. As far as I know, you
work for "them." The program has MULTIPLE modes. I notice if I type the
word winfixer in a search engine, IT IS AWARE I AM DOING SO.

I just ran Symantec's latest 11/26/05 Vundo removal tool, so far, so good.

The program can apparently use XP's "restore" feature to restore itself
after you remove it.

This is a big, mean program written by smart people, and the FULL RESOURCES
of Microsoft, McAfee, and Symantec need to be brought into play. I emailed
CERT too but they seem to be focused on the Internet and Unixs rather than my
problems.

In general, I wouldn't advise ANYONE to download software "fixes" from
unknown users who offer them on a form. Nothign personal, "Sharon."

You made the right choice on downloading from "Sharon's" site.--
***
NEVER download files from anywhere unless it is from the website of the
developer, manufacturer or some entity that you trust. They ALWAYS have the
most up to date files that haven't been tampered with by some third party
who is "hosting" (read Leeching or Stealing) those files without permission.

Here to help? What a laugh! Telling people to accept executable files
through email and run them is stupid. Lists of people who've opened
executables from email, like you suggest, is too voluminous for this post.
Thousands and thousands. That's why there are so many infected computers.
You give BAD advice.

He's helping. He's helping himself to other peoples work and claiming it as his
own work.
