Hi,

I've run "Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - July 2005
(KB890830)" from windows update, rebooted numerous times, but the update
won't disappear from windows update. I'm using Windows XP SP2. I also
have a version of Windows XP SP2 running in vmware, and this copy is
fine. I've tried running regmon/filemon to figure out what windows
update checks to see if the tool has been run but I've had no luck.

If someone from MS could give me the specifics of how exactly windows
update decides if I've done the scan that would be awesome.

Thanks!

When the tool is run it will create a log file; this file is located in
the %WINDIR%\DEBUG\MRT.LOG

Kit

Thanks, but this doesn't help with my issue. All I see in the log is
that I've run the tool many, many times.

What is the virus/malware status of your computer? What have you done to
insure it is 100% clean?

I'm reasonably sure it's clean. I have NOD 32 anti-virus running and
updated, and have scanned with Ad-aware and Anti-spyware. This computer
was formatted about 2 months ago.

The tool does not find anything either.
