Has anyone had a problem with Windows Defender in the last few days? It
wouldn't initialise (even if manually started) with an obscure error message.
I uninstalled Defender and downloaded the latest version (x64.msi) from MS
but it refuses to install - not suitable for the processor. I have XP home
edition SP2. Exactly the same thing happened to a friend who also has XP
home SP2 but on a newer PC. Does anyone know what is wrong?

Worng is that Windows Defender FINAL released was published months ago and
the BETA2 expired on 31 Dec 2006 . Obviously you was using BETA 2 which
stopped working and you need to install Windows Defender FINAL release if you
want to use Windows Defender .

You say you have XP Home SP2 , the above installer is for x64 bit Operating
system Windows XP Pro 64 bit . Your OS is XP Home 32 bits . You downloaded
wrong installer and the application refuses to install . The correct
installer is

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=435BFCE7-DA2B-4A6A-AFA4-F7F14E605A0D&displaylang=en

After you validate your Windows , it will offer you your x32 bits version
which you should download and install only after you have uninstalled the
BETA version followed by reboot .

Thanks. Microsoft had the wrong version up yesterday, and the main version
was the X64. It is changed now and it works fine.
