Yesterday, I had a pop-up ad saying I could download a free update of
anti-virus from Internet Explorer. I tried to delete it, but it downloaded
anyway, and with it came three different viruses - trojan.vundo, downloader
and infostealer, along with some intrusive adware -
adserver.softwareonline.com. My wonderful Norton product could not get rid
of them, so I deleted my Norton Security software and downloaded Windows Live
OneCare. It has managed to clean the viruses from my system. I actually
also downloaded Internet Explorer 7 again and replaced the version 7 I
already had on my pc. However, I am still getting pop-up ads from a group
called "Winsoftware Corp., urging me to download for free, either
"Winantispyware" or "WinantivirusPro2007freeinstall.cab". It is difficult to
delete the screen withought activating the download, and fortunately
LiveOneCare catches the adware immediately and cleans it from my pc. In fact
the only way I could get rid of the pop-up without downloading it was to use
Windows Task Manager and end the task that way. LiveOneCare is also blocking
a program called "backweb-137903.exe.", and I have left it being blocked, as
I have no idea what it is.

Big mistake. Even Norton is *better* than OneCare. If you had asked first
before removing
Norton and installing OneCare you woul ahev been advised to keep Norton.

Two phase answer...

Perform Part 1 then Part 2 and then Part 3

It is suggested that you execute each tool in Normal Mode then in Safe Mode.

If you are using any version of Sun Java that is prior to JRE Version 6.0,
then you are strongly urged to remove any/all versions.
There are numerous vulnerabilities in them and they are actively being exploited.

It is highly suggested that you update to the latest version which is Sun Java
JRE/JSE
Version 6.0 update 1 (jre 6u1)

Simple check, look under...
C:\Program Files\Java

The only folder under that folder should be the latest version.

Such as...
C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01

I'm yet another one of the unfortunate people who stumbled across
WinAntivirus Pro. The usual things happened, la dee da, and now I can't
get the crud off my computer. -I did all that David L. recommended in
his post-, but it didn't seem to eliminate the entire problem. I don't
see any more messages from "cleanerPC" and "winantivirus" but I'm still
getting numerous popup adds and with each popup comes a windows alert
stating that Windows XP is trying to reconfigure itself.
Unfortunately I can no longer locate my XP disc and so it's impossible
for me to reconfigure, but I wonder if it would even be necessary to do
that in the first place.

If anyone can help me at all it would be greatly appreciated. These
computer problems are overwhelming to me and I have no idea where to
begin. I still have SUPERAntiSpyware on my computer - it seems to work
well - and I downloaded the latest Norton although I can't get it to
function. I have Adaware (have had) SE on my computer and I ran
VundoFixer. It's a challenge even to get my computer to restart
properly at this point and with all these programs I'm surprised
nothing's helping.

Please advise me, I'm at a complete loss.
Can be e-mailed if needed.

Dear Kilian11,

the short term answer is: do a clean reinstallation of Windows and all
its programs. It may be necessary to back up all your data first.

The long term answer is: try some Linux version and learn how to use it.
PCLinuxOS seems to be very good. I myself use its parent distribution
now and am very happy with it: Mandriva Linux.

Greetings,

Erik Jan.
