Hi all,

Someone asked me, why, when he 'turned off' his AVG free 'Control Centre',
virus checking still continued. I had not looked into this before, but
assumed that the virus checker was a service that was set to load or not, in
the CC front end, but then continued automatically.

Sure enough, Resident Shield turns up in the AVG folder as avgrssvc.exe, but
this file does not show up in the services in Computer Management, or
Process Explorer. Clicking the exe file direct just gets a 'fail to start'
message, but it is presumably already running, just not showing up anywhere
as such.

Where can this service be observed running; and can it be turned on and off
without the CC front end?

Curious,

S
