Hi, I am using Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional with Windows XP Home
SP2. Starting from last night, the Norton AntiVirus Virus Alert Window
keeps popping up saying "A virus has been detected and has been removed
from your computer". I clicked "OK", then another Alert window pops up.
I have now clicked at least 60 times and the window still pops up. I
cannot get rid of it! If I opened another programs, they were
underneath the Alert Window.

Could someone tell me what's going on? How can I close the Alert
windows? Do I need to uninstall Norton AntiVirus? Besides this window
keeps popping up, my computer seems working fine. I have other
AntiVirus program installed and none of them had found any virus in my
system.

Any comments/suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Thomas

Update your virus definitions and do a thorough scan with NAV in Safe
Mode. Get into Safe Mode by repeatedly tapping the F8 key as the
computer is starting up. This will get you to the right menu. Navigate
using your Up arrow key; the mouse will not work here.

It would have helped if you indicated what the fully qualified name and path to
the infected
file and what that file was being falgged as infected with.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go
through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal
Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the
PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you
can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded
the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode
[F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run
in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive
PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Hello.
First of all , you use too old version of Norton AV . The latest is 2006 (I
guess you know that) . Second , you mention you have another antivirus
software which is something really bad because they fight with each other
instead of working . I recommend you remove the other av products and leave
only Norton .

Third , make sure your Norton is up-to-date . Update it not with Live Update
but with Intellegent Updater from Symantec. Download the first file here:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html

and install it then.

Perform full scan with Norton . It is recommend you do it in Safe Mode
howevr I am not sure if it is possible for it do scan in Safe Mode because
old versions encouraged problems in this mode of Windows. So try and if it
works , great.
To boot in Safe Mode you need to continuosly hit F8 while your computer is
starting -> after the BIOS loads and before you see the Windows logo .Then
you'll open the Windows Advanced Menu and choose Safe Mode . Wait some time
and go ahead . Try to scan .

When the scan is finished , please get rid if this old version of Norton and :
either
1) Upgrade to version 2006
or better
2) Buy and Install another AV software (NOD32 , foe example)
