When I tried to install AVG free, the latest version, I got a message "there
is another antivirus program installed on your computer. It is advised to
delete this program before installing AVG.8."
I have Norton 2002, which I didn`t use for years.
What is the safest way to delete it ? I read that some have problems when
they tried to get rid of Norton.
Thanks

You don't delete an installed program. You uninstall it.

Perhaps they "delete" Norton instead of uninstalling it. Have you tried
uninstalling Norton?

If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options I have, and it needed the norton removal tools as mentioned by pcbutts1 to
finally get it off my systems; do you really imagine norton developing a
removal tool, when uninstalling would do the trick all by its own?
Still a good thing, to remind people to uninstall first; that takes care off
those filling their recycle bins with shortcuts only.

The only reliable way to remove Norton is to use the norton removal
tool, available from Symantec.
