| If a trojan has been attached to a necessary Windows OS file, will
| trojan cleaning software clean this type of trojan or is the only way
| to get rid of these type is to format your hard drive? Thanks

Trojans do not attach "...to a necessary Windows OS file".
Trojans are files are just bad software.

It is viruses that can "infect" a file by modyfying or appending code "...to a
necessary
Windows OS file". Trojans are not viruses are do not self replicate. Trojans
require a
user to manually install them. This could be via Social Engineering or through
a malicious
web site or a malicious web site using exploitation methods.

Formating is a last ditch draconian acgtion and should only be attempted after a
Cost
Benefit Analysis (CBA) is performed. Such an analysis should be based upon the;
type of
infection, the quantity of infectors and the user's skill level. If one has
instituted a
backup and failsafe plan, formatting is a prudent action.

Since you are using the web interface to Usenet groups, you may not
realize that this is really a newsgroup and not a web forum. You will
get far more out of this resource if you learn to use a newsreader.
There are many good newsreaders for Windows, but you can use Outlook
Express since you already have it. Here are some links to information
about newsgroups:
