The host of my guestbook "Wondbook" notified me via e-mail of a new entry.
Upon klicking on the provided URL to read this entry, Norton Anti Virus
popped up informing me: that a virus had been deposited with the name
>downloader.Trojan< in my C:Document and Setting\Local Settings/sploit2.anr
Norton further stated that it could not destroy of quarantine it.
I have three questions for the experts: What is a trojan horse, can I
continue to use my e-mail, and how do I get rid of it?
Thanks for any help.

Your AV most likely blocked it and that's why "it could not destroy of
quarantine it ".

As for a Trojan Horse. Think about its traditional sense. It was a gift to an
enemy were
troops were hiding inside and when the enemy was lulled into a false sense of
security,
those troops inside the "gift" were now within the bounds of the enemies
encampment and
attacked the enemy.

Malware works in a similar fashion.

Hello David,

Thank you for your answer. I may have worded my question >what is a trojan
horse< badly. Instead I should have asked >what effect has a trojan horse
on the target area where it has been introduced?<
Thanks.

It totally depends on WHICH Trojan it is. There are too many to enumerate.
