My roommates kid recently looked at a profile that captures Yahoo ids and is
basically a nuisance virus on my system. I was able to create another id but
am unable to pull up my original id. Everytime I try to download any type of
spyware, the search engine I am using automatically goes away. How do I get
rid of this nuisance? I have already ran Microsoft's malicious virus scan and
it detected 1 malicious file which was deleted but I still have the
problem....please help as I am clueless at this point.

Go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with either Sysclean or Multi_AV, plus Ewido. Do all
prep/finishing work and follow instructions to do all scans in Safe
Mode.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).

You have to get all tools/updates from a different, known-clean computer
with an Internet connection. Burn the tools/files to cd-r from that
computer or have a usb thumbdrive with enough capacity to transfer the
files. If you don't have this ability and/or if the procedures look too
complex - and there is no shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea
- take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your
local version of BigStoreUSA).
