Got a bug in my system, nothing major, but damn annoying.
Keeps on changing my .TXT extensions to another extention;;
Seems to use extentions/Icons from stuff that I already have....
Right click on the re-iconed files doesnt allow for a 'target' option,,,
was hoping it might lead to the culprit.
the '.SAM' file in windows seems fine, and have run the usual adware
proggies along with my anti/v.
Grateful if you guys can save me a lot of trapsing around looking for the
fix. I'd also like to know the source and registry tamperings if possible.
Thanks.
Chris

Chris again.
I forgot some other things that may help.
1)All things are restored to normal upon a Restart/boot etc.
2)Seems to happen once every few days, or so.
3)Its primary target of Icon change, (from .txt to........) is
always the same, guess its the first one the 'creep' programmed
it to mess with... but its not Always the one it picks, there
have been other instances.... even Mozilla Firefoxs' icon has
been used.(i only browse with f/f.)
4)Been like it now for around 6 weeks.... but like I said, it does squat
and is nothing more than annoying.
Thanks
Chris.

If you were Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options Ben, that doesn't cover what is happening. His *extensions* are being
changed, not just the icons.
I will wait for David or others to come along, but it could be something
as simple as enlarging the icon cache or running HiJack This and
putting the log out on one of the Forums.
Good luck, Chris......Heather

Your welcome to give BugHunter a try, if you run your computer in safe

file. Or just browse thru the instructions.
If the variant you have is known, BugHunter may be able to disable/remove
it for you. Be sure to import FIXREG.REG into your system registry when
finished scanning to remove the balloon. Please let us know how it goes.
