If you were  Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options

The risk happens, and should be secured, at the "always on" internet
connection point. What applications you run aren't really relevant in the
scheme of things that might happen in that sense.

I'll second Malke's suggestion for a good internet connection router /
firewall box... they are not magic shields of faultless protection but they
do make the job a darned sight easier.
