Hi,

I want to purchase some anti-virus software. Searching the internet I can
see OEM software (eg McAfee Virusscan 2006) at a much reduced price than the
boxed version. I appreciate the OEM version will come without a box and
documentation but are there any other restrictions? Will I have any problems
downloading updates? And does this work in the same way – ie free downloads
for a year? Sorry if this is a rather basic question but any advice much
appreciated. Thanks.

It is your decision which antivirus software you'll buy but I wouldn't
suggest you have McAfee on your PC.
There are better antiviruses.
For me Panda is the best and you may have a look at it-just test and you'll
see.

For example :
Panda Titanium 2006 Antivirus + Antispyware

Panda Titanium 2006 incorporates TruPrevent technology.
Lean what TruPrevent ® is here:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/virus_info/truprevent.htm
http://www.pandasecurity.com/ICSAReport/Panda_Public_Evaluation.PDF

Panda has reach the highest score in October 2005 PC WORLD test.It
successfully removed 89% of all known spyware. You'll see what TruPrevent can.

Panda Titanium 2006 costs $49 for one year but you can have discounts if you
buy online using Panda's site.

:-)

And I've removed Panda from every clients computer we've been contracted
to support due to the excessive resources bloat and how it slows down
login/logoff more than McAfee or Norton/Symantec products.

In removing it from 20+ systems last month, it took almost 1 hour to
remove from several machines, ended up starting in safe mode and hacking
the registry to remove it.

All well and good but unfortunately nothing to do with my query. Can anybody
else please provide advice on the question asked?

Unless you consider that we're trying to help you save money on a
mistake.
