I've had this error appear a number of times and it automatically shuts down
my computer for me.. I downloaded a sasser virus patch and the problem went
away. It has now reared its ugly head again. Does my patch actually do
anything and is there anything else I can try? I operate a windows 2000 prof
system

A bit of additional information.

It also states in the warning whilst my computer is shutting down (it gives
me 60 seconds to close all applications ) that:

C:\WINNT\system32\services.exe is unexpectedly stopped with status code 128.

I would appreciate any help.
Thanks

It is isn't LSASS.EXE so it isn't even close to being a Sasser infection
possibility.
There is something else wrong with the OS and I strongly do not think it is
viral in nature.
There is somekind of OS corroption.

Assuming you are using Win2K (because youi didn't state what OS and you noted
C:\WINNT\) I
suggest re-posting ALL pertinent information in;
microsoft.public.win2000.general

What I am saying, in your post there state ...

NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM shutdown message in;
C:\WINNT\system32\services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code 128.

I am just wondering if some of the lines we post appear invisible to other
readers? It happened to me so many times that I am beginning to suspect that
it might be the case. The guy at the head of the thread CLEARLY stated and I
quote:

"I operate a windows 2000 prof system"

What else should be done to make the subject clear and eliminate guesswork.
No clarity is enough it seems.

That's true and you are correct. Sometimes the eyes miss data, especially at
the end of a
post. ;-)
The problem was I was replying to the scond post and thus the OS version
information was
lost

For that I was mistaken by professing the OS version was not provided by jonast.
