Hi ,
Any answers for the following questions will be appreciated.
NOD32
1.NOD32 doesn't scan some files/memmory for virus because the files are
locked /being used. Is there anyway to fix this problem?
KAPERSKY
1. when I test Kapersky antivirus personal with EICAR TEST VIRUS FILE it
displayed a message that it can't first disinfect then that it can't delete.I
am just questioning the products actual performance with real viruses?
2. When I tried with Microsoft outlook to scan email messages I got a blue
screen.Has anyone come across the same problem before? And I have to scan
manually rather than autamatically by the product ?
Consulted the manual and the contacted tech support and didn't get any answer.
Thank you

Same with just about any AV scanner. You can't scan a file whose respective
File Handle is
held open by the OS.

A "true" virus appends code to an executable. For example a 1KB EXE file map
get appended
by 1KB of virus code to be 2KB. If you diinfect the virus from the file it
reverts back to
1KB.
The EICAR test file is a 69/70 byte file. You can't diinfecte it. Just delete
it or block
it it from being written.7

Hi David,
Norton didn't display any message like that . thats why I am confused.May it
was because of the Normal mode scan. but I got the same problem when I scan
in SAFE MODE?
by the way, can u please answer as to why kapersky doesn't have a automatic
email scan. with pop3 mails you are required to select MAIL BOXES and press
the scan button to scan manually.Thats when I got the blue screen.
PLEASE DON'T ASSUME THAT I AM USING MULTIPLE ANTIVIRUS . I WANT TO GET A
NEW ONE SO I AM TESTING. I ALWAYS UNINSTALL THE PREVIOUS ONE BEFORE USING THE
NEW ONE.
IN YOU OPINION, WHY DO YOU RATE KAPERSKY OVER NOD32 EVEN THO NOD32 USES LESS
RESOURCES?
SORRY FOR BOMBARDING WITH THE QUESTIONS. JUST TAKE YOUR TIME
THANKS A LOT

Safe Mode or Normal Mode the scanner will react the same. Different AV scanners
will
display differnt messages.

I can't answer that. I will say that the only time I think it is good to scan
incoming
email is when using MAPI and a MAPI compliant email client like MS Outlook from
the Office
Suite or using VIM with a VIM compliant email client like Lotus Notes.
Otherwise POP3 email scanning gets difficult and many will state to disable
email scanning
for incoming and you *never* need email scanning for outgoing.

Please don't type in all caps. In UseNet News Group where communication is only
done via
what you type, typing in all caps is akin to shouting. It also makes reading
much harder.
I rate Kaspersky very highly based upon...
A very high catch rate
A very large signature library
They are the quickest to generate signatures for any new infector.

Thankyou All for the reply.Really learned a lot.
I tried Panda trueprevent to enhance prevention with Norton Antivirus before
and guess what
I was crippled ya my computer like it had a stroke or a heart attack. Man
better be dead with virus and regenerate by reinstallation rather than living
disabled .
