| After updating all four (4) applications, I am unable to perform scan with
| McAfee in either normal or safe mode. When pressing #3 and error message
| appears: "update.ini not opened for read, error code [0]".
|
| I don't experience this with the other three (3) scanning engines. The only
| time I can scan with McAfee is right after update is completed when the
| small window pops up indicating "Do you want to run the McAfee CLS now?"
| which is in normal mode.
|
| I downloaded, uninstalled and re-downloaded this wonderful utility several
| times always ensuring that ZoneAlarm FireWall (free version) does not block
| WGET.EXE. I even disabled the FireWall completely and started downloading
| the utilities from 1 to 4, from 4 to 1, then 2,3,1,4, then 4,1,2,3 etc. but
| the error sign just appears again and again.
| Would very much appreciate any assistance for get McAfee CLS running
| properly.
| TIA,
| Kayman.
Kayman:
That error indicates that you are unable to dowload the UPDATE.INI file which is
parsed for
present McAfee Engine and Signature versions. That information is then used to
download the
latest McAfee SuperDAT.
I don't know if you are using a current version or an older version.
One of the updates to the utility was to have the McAfee module be able to
perform a FTP GET
and if that fails then try a HTTP GET to obtain the required Mcafee files.
The way to determine the version (undocumented fature) is when you are at the
menu, hit the
letter 'V' or 'v' which will provide the Version Number. The current version
will display;
"Multi-AV v4.05".
There is also a manual way to download and install the SuperDAT.
Go to;
http://www.mcafee.com/apps/downloads/security_updates/superdat.asp?region=us&segment=enterprise
Download the latest SuperDAT such as; sdat4863.exe
Rename the SuperDAT to setup.exe (ex. rename sdat4863.exe to setup.exe )
Copy; setup.exe to C:\AV-CLS\McAfee
Run the Multi AV Scanning Tool Menu and choose the McAfee module

I checked and found that am using Multi-AV v3.15.
As per your instructions, I downloaded and installed manually sdat.exe,
renamed it to setup.exe and copied/pasted to C:\AV-CLS\McAfee.
I then run the Multi AV Scanning Tool Menu and hit #3 for McAfee.
Unfortunately, the error sign popped-up again displaying the same text as
previously.
I then hit #5 to exit the AV CLS Menu 5 and opened the McAfee folder. To my
surprise the 'setup.exe' renamed itself to 'oldsetup.exe' which I renamed
again to 'setup.exe'. Then I went back to C:\AV-CLS, double-clicked onto
Start Menu, hit #3 and finally the prompt "Do you want to run the McAfee CLS
now" appeared :). The scanning went smoothly and uneventful :).
After scanning I went back checking on the SuperDat Stub and found that it
renamed itself again to 'oldsetup.exe'.
I kindly request your assistance as how to upgrade to version 4.05 and
prevent SuperDAT Stub from renaming itself.
Many thanks in advance.
Kayman.

Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close
Your present version will now be upgraded.
The included PDF Help File was also updated.

Followed your instructions, executed Multi_AV.exe using the default folder
C:\AV-CLS, unzipped 22 files successfully which upgraded the Multi AV
Scanning to v4.05.
I then downloaded the latest updates for all four (4) scanning tools in the
following order: McAfee, Sophos, Kaspersky, Trend.
Rebooted; no problems with 'prompts' for Sophos, Kaspersky and Trend. But no
luck with 'prompt' for McAfee - the same error message appeared again.
I checked the name on the SuperDAT Stub and found that it has not changed
from 'oldsetup.exe' to 'setup.exe'. So I manually renamed the SuperDAT Stub
'setup.exe which then enabled me to get the McAfee prompt :) I then exited
the Multi AV Scanning Tool Menu (pressing #5), closed and re-opened
C:\AV-CLS, and opened the McAfee folder - the SuperDAT Stub re-named itself
again to 'oldsetup.exe' :(
I 'dragged' the SuperDat Stub from the folder to my desktop, re-named it and
dragged it back, but this didn't work either; After closing an re-opening
the folder the SuperDAT stub re-named itself again to 'oldsetup.exe'.
Grateful for another suggestion to overcome this challenge.
Cheers...........Kayman.
