After updating all four (4) applications, I am unable to perform scan with
McAfee in either normal or safe mode. When pressing #3 and error message
appears: "update.ini not opened for read, error code [0]".

I don't experience this with the other three (3) scanning engines. The only
time I can scan with McAfee is right after update is completed when the
small window pops up indicating "Do you want to run the McAfee CLS now?"
which is in normal mode.

I downloaded, uninstalled and re-downloaded this wonderful utility several
times always ensuring that ZoneAlarm FireWall (free version) does not block
WGET.EXE. I even disabled the FireWall completely and started downloading
the utilities from 1 to 4, from 4 to 1, then 2,3,1,4, then 4,1,2,3 etc. but
the error sign just appears again and again.
Would very much appreciate any assistance for get McAfee CLS running
properly.
TIA,
Kayman.

Never seen it called "multi-vendor" b4 ! ...please expect the wrath of
David H Lipman :-)

FWIW , I think that's the one of the four cls's under the multi-av fornt
end, that won't run on a friends machine.

regards, Richard

I'm sure that David Lipman will be along to set you right. I assume that you
are talking about David's Multi_AV, btw. However, since Multi_AV is a
first-line antivirus tool used to clean up a system before installing a
full-featured antivirus, I wouldn't worry about it if one of the components
won't scan. Just scan with the other three to clean the system up enough to
install your full-time av. Then update the full-time av and do a thorough
scan in Safe Mode. Combine with other malware removal steps to finish
cleaning the box. Refer to these virus/malware-removal steps for more
procedures:
