Long story made short: My KIS 6.0 recently detected a virus on my XP SP2 PC.
It ended up being a false positive. However, out of paranoia, I downloaded
and ran Multi_AV, all 4 scanners in safe mode. No viruses were found, BUT
something about running Multi_AV on XP Home Edition DELETED the "turn off
computer" link from my Welcome Screen. I was unable to get the link back
using any of Doug Knox's tweaks, and I found that my system restore had been
disabled (could have been caused by KIS - not sure). What does Multi_AV.exe
do that would delete the "turn off computer" link on the welcome screen? How
could I repair that?
This has happened to me before and this time I was able to determine that is
was Multi_AV.exe that causes the problem. Please advise.

BTW - in case you need this info: My PC is a Dell Dimension 3000 witih a
Dell OEM version of Windows XP SP2 Home Edition. I already solved my problem
by reformatting, but I would like to know if there's a fix for this problem
in case I need to use Multi-AV.exe in the future. Thanks.

There is nothing in te Multi AV Scanning Tool that would cause the OS that would
delete the
"turn off computer" link on the welcome screen.

Since it is open sourced coding, this is EASILY verified to be a true statement.

I'm sorry that you have this problem but I can only attribute it to the malware.

Hi, David. Thanks for the reply. I have confidence in Multi_Av, but in this
case there was NO malware. There was only a false positive detection by KIS
of a file in LinkScanner Pro. Kaspersky Labs and Exploit Prevention Labs are
working on a resolution. The Welcome Screen "turn off computer" link was
there until I executed Multi_AV. Is there anything in your tool that changes
configuration or group policy settings? I checked my gina.dll file and it
was the default. The only other thing that I came up with in my search for a
solution was group policy settings that do not seem to be available in XP
Home Edition. Any thoughts on this?
