I was using AOL's security center but kept running into a problem where the
McAfee Antivirus update message was popping up every 3 minutes blocking
other programs. I used AOL for travel since I have cable modem at home, but
I just dumped AOL. The security would have been worth it if it worked.
I was wondering if McAfee's direct buy software has this same problem and if
so, what other home user recommended programs cause the least amount of
system troubles??
Thanks.

Hi, I was running AOL Safety and Security Center [the latest version] which
has a suite of McAfee apps installed, including Firewall and Antivirus and
Spyware blocker. I'm on Windows XP SPII.
The Security center checks internet traffic, but it created a known error
for AOL's service center. A pop up message would appear every 3 minutes from
the start/task bar area saying "Your Antivirus Definitions have been
updated." This pop up would keep popping up even if you selected no
notifications. It would pop up in front of all other programs, getting in
the way of the current work space. Very annoying. I deinstalled AOL
yesterday and cancelled my membership.
I was wondering if this is a known issue with McAfee's direct buy product as
well or only with the AOL version.
Thanks

Thanks ,I now understood what you was talking about... Well , I don't use
McAfee products however I haven't heard of such problem before so this must
be AOL issue only. Great you closed your membership. :)

Well, I do web design, so I used to need it for checking web pages, and I
needed a connection when on the road on vacation, and I figured $5/mo -or
$60/yr- was about the cost of annual subscriptions for AntiVirus updates. {I
used the AOL Bring your own ISP rate}
But now AOL responds pretty much like regular WIN for page views, so I
don't need it for that. I log onto the web using other's ISP's when visiting
family, and AOL screwed up their implementation of McAfee.
