Where on earth did you get the idea that 122 F (50 C) was the maximum
temperature for your CPU? Maximum guranteed CPU (for Intel and AMD)
operating temperatures are more like 68 C ( 155 F) and up. Or do you mean
some other reading for your system?

At any rate, your system should be designed to at reasonable temperatures no
matter what software is operating, and malware removal is certainly not
going to be the most CPU intensive application possible.

Separate the two problems.
One is a piece of software that doesn't seem to work for you.
The second is your concern for what may be a non existent problem.

For problem one, try
http://www.microsoft.com/hk/security/malwareremove/default.mspx .

For problem two, try a system hardware health program like MotherBoard
Monitor to check the various temperatures, fan speeds and voltages in your
system.

Omega2,

Which AV is installed, McAfee or Norton ? Have seen this issue mostly
with McAfee. See if it hangs when you run it directly from this page
using Internet Explorer :
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

Omega2,

Yes, hopefully I can help with a real solution :). Thanks to members of this
newsgroup, we've found and fixed an issue in the tool related to this issue.
The tool was updated on Windows Update / Automatic Updates, the Download
Center
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=ad724ae0-e72d-4f54-9ab3-75b8eb148356&displaylang=en)
(probably right after you tried it), and
http://www.microsoft.com/malwareremove on Friday morning, relatively soon
after the issue was first reported, late Wednesday.

Can you please try to run the tool again and let us know if you still see
this issue ?

Thanks,
Matt
