Is it possible that SOME reputable software companies- NOT MICROSOFT- may be
"encouraging" viruses that download and therefore add customers to their
"bottom line"?
Like: "sold their soul to the devil"?

Lately I get spam ads from a well known company with offers to clean up my
computer. These new viruses just make me more suspicious... and paranoid.

If you give companies your email address or post your true, not a munged, email
address...
What do you expect ?

As for the statement "...reputable software companies..." "...may be encouraging"
viruses..." -- Your are going to have to be specific. When it comes to
comapanies, the
closest they get are non-viral malware. Organized crime uses viruses.
Companies use
adware. Some reputable companies use quasi malware, tracking software, like
Verizon.

Never say never, but, no.

What do you mean by Spam Ads? Are you getting pop-ups or emails?

What company?

If a reputable company was downloading viruses on your computer and got
caught (and they would get caught) it would be NBC Nightly News for them and
subsequently the end of said "reputable company"...
