I have been running the MS AntiSpyware Beta1 for a year now and thinking I
should be "mostly" protected. I ran a scan each day.
A couple of days ago I installed Ad-Aware and SpyBot S&D. Between the two
of them, they found a little more than 200 spyware objects (probably not
very many - considering how many there are out there).
This caused me to look at MS AntiSpyware scan history and it has only
detected 2 spyware objects in the last year. These are probably objects
found on the hard drive during the scans and evidently does not give any
information for how many "invasions" have been blocked.
My question; is it worth the time to even have MS AntiSpyware Beta running
on my system?
TIA - Jim

What where they?
If they where cookies MASB does not scan for these.

Thank you Mike,
They were all tracking cookies.
So - since I do quite a bit of surfing and haven't picked up any hazardous
spyware, adware, Trojans, or key loggers, etc., I can assume that MS
AntiSpyware is doing a decent job.

Fancy me stumbling into this thread after having spent all afternoon reading
about anti-spyware programs !
...here was an interesting read,
http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/article/0,aid,119572,00.asp

I'll give you all a quick summary.

Most of them aren't very good at all.
Most internet security suites that now include an anti-spyware module
haven't done a very good job of the anti-spyware part.
NONE of them are 100% effective, and can't compensate for an inept PC
operator.

Webroot's Spy Sweeper was highly acclaimed by several reviewers, (i think
that's the one that bought CWshredder ?), but, it only does 90% of the job !
ZA internet security was highly acclaimed but, it's anti-spyware module's
performance and effectiveness is up and down, to say the least !
F-secure was praised but, the anti-spyware part is not all that strong, same
as McaFee, Trend and lots of others.
But, you all knew all that already !

...so you either never connect to the internet, or run several brands of
software that do the same job hoping that one will catch what the other ones
missed, which is a recipe for disaster, unless you're lucky enough to hit on
a bunch programs that don't interfere with each other. Having said that,
Windows Defender beta 2 is still lurking in my PC somewhere and doesn't seem
to be interfering with anything at all including ZA's anti-spyware program
...aaaah perhaps that's what the little yellow update shield was doing
earlier on, I couldn't get it to respond as with "normal" windows updates !
I dumped ZA backalong when it's Truevector service caused my DreamWeaver 4
to stop working, so perhaps I ought to resintall DW4 before buying the
damned thing !

regards, Richard
