Hi,

I'm wondering what serious problems can occur when a current computer
gets infected. From reading around here it seems that mostly a virus is
a matter of being a nuisance rather than doing any serious damage.

Years ago I got bit by the Klez, I know the havoc that played on me, I
just wonder what's to be expected now?

Anyone got any horror stories?

The best way to get an answer to your question is to read about what
various viruses and malware can do. If you just spend a few minutes
looking at Symantec's or McAfee's virus databases, your question will be
answered. Here are some links to get you started:

Having malware is not a game . Infection from a security threat can do
everything (evil) . I suggest you visit this site
http://pandaman.my.contact.bg
http://pandaman.my.contact.bg/malware_description.htm

and learn more about the type of threats and what they can pose.

Regards!

Ever heard of Cryptovirology ?
I thought not.

This is when a virus or Trojan encrypts YOUR data and you must pay a sum or fee
to decrypt
your files.

Do you like your MP3 files ? There are viruses and Trojans (from this point I'l
just say
malware) that will delete, corrupt or rename your MP3 files.

Do you use MS Office ? There is malware that will see MS office files and
delete them.

Do you tage digital photos ? There is malware that will delete, corrupt or
rename your JPEG
files.

Do you still use FAT32 ? The Kriz or Chernobyl can corrupt your hard disk and
delete data.

I can go on and on....

Hi again,

Looks kind of ominous. When people drop through here they often mention
having something or other, but rarely mention what problems were
manifested.

Thanks again,
