But in that case <rant at Sun> why haven't Sun updated the Consumer web
page?
Seems damn poor if their different sites are all offering multiple versions.

It puzzles me also because if you want Java Update 6 with EE this is the
latest version. I wonder why my Java Runtime 5 with Update 6 will not
automatically update. Have any users tried Java Runtime 5 with update 7
and/or 8 and found it to work well? Thanks for the responses.

I updated to 7 when it came out, and it worked just fine in IE and FF.
Yesterday, I upgraded to 8, and it also works just fine.

I have never found the Automatic update or manual update for any version to
work worth a darn.

Thanks, Tom. I will update to Java version 5 update 8 from Java version
5 update 6 and remove the old version of course.

You shouldn't have it auto-update anyway because it fails to remove older
versions !
