Hi All,

I have a client that likes to listen to music
on Pandora Music Radio: http://www.pandora.com.
He is concerned over both security and copyright
issues on this site.

I did a google search on pandona music and did not
come up with any security or copyright concerns over it.

Is this a legitimate site? No malware problems?
No copyright problems?

Many thanks,
-T

I checked it out and I see no way you can download songs without paying
for them. So in the US, in my opinion, this would be a legitimate site.
IOW, no different from listening to a radio.

However, perhaps I did something wrong because I wanted to hear Julio
Iglesias' new CD and it played a song from Dirty Dancing.

You could of course move up here to the Land of the Free, lol. We do
not have rabid music industry types suing us in Canada over P2P sharing.
See....some things are *Better in Canada*. (G)

Thank you. Thank you for the test too!

The customer was worried as his Trend PC-cillin 2006 says he is
infected with "adw_agent.oxa". (I will be out there next week to do
my magic.) We were trying to figure out where is caught the
little bugger. P2P users have a target on their back, so I
got to wondering if Pandora might be responsible.

Are you sure it isn't a false alarm by Trend?? I hit Google and there
sure wasn't much info on it.

And not all P2P users have a *target on their back*!! I won't reveal
the number of downloads I have done over many years, but not ONCE have I
received malware of any kind. Now, if you try to download pirated
programs, then you would have a problem.......but not with mp3's and not
with using *safe hex*. One should run their antivirus over any mp3
downloads just to be sure.

Hi Heather,

Here is Trend's write up on it:

http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/grayware/ve_graywareDetails.asp?GNAME=ADW%5FAGENT%2EOXA&VSect=Td

Seems like a pretty easy remove.

I try to get my customers off of music steeling site and
over to legit ones. My favorite is iTunes: nice and legal.
Teenagers seem to like iTunes too, so it
make the whole family happy.

Musicians deserve to be paid too. They feed their children
with their music. Just because music is
easy to steel does not make it moral. Far too
many teenagers, and unfortunately far too many
adults, have a hard time with this concept. (I will
get off my soap box now.)

I think I will look over the customer's browsing
history to try and find a clue as to where this
little bugger (adw_agent.oxa) came from.

Thank you for all the help!

-T
