You are so right there. I refuse to help anyone locally who uses AOL. It is
too intrusive and quirky and full of unnecessary bloatware. I consider AOL
as a virus!

You are wrong.

At most you might considerAOL software as "malware" in the sense of it being bad
software.
However, it no way can AOL software be considered a virus as nothing about it
fits the
definition. A virus must self replicate to be called a virus and AOL software
does not self
replicate.

But AOL does replicate itself ! ...the AOL plastic cd's reproduction cycle
is VERY prolific. Every now and again one drops through my letterbox, and
I've lost count of the times where someone proudly hands me an AOL
installation cd because, "it's of no use to me..." ...I'm always tempted
to ask, "What possible use do you think it could be to me," but, politeness
prevails, and I politely decline. Of course I threaten them with serious
consequences if they ever put the rubbish into their PC !

regards, Richard

..ps
...and he's using commas ! ,alt.privacy.spyware

Sorry David, I was a bit over the top there. Consider my comment as rhetoric
rather than serious!
