How do anti-spyware utilities (like Spyware Search & Destroy, Spyware
Doctor) immunize the OS? I would like to know what impact this will
have on my system before running it.

thanks

I can only speak for the windows defender ( we gather samples of those
spyware's and we make signatures for them and if ever you come across one
that our apps knows it would prompt you and ask you to deal with it using our
tool ) - most often immunization is not the exact word for it. As you very
well know if you trigger any and all instances to download the said spyware's
or malwares all that security software can do is warn you and ask you to
delete, clean or block them. But it is still you call if you would like to
proceed.

They add site names and IP #'s to your restricted sites under your security
tab in Internet options in Internet exploder for example.

That does happen in the registry. However, the 'killbit' is or may be reset
(also in the registry) which disables the ability of certain sites to run
ActiveX controls installed on one's computer.
