Hi Maurice
O/T - congrats to the USA football team who held the Italians to a 1 - 1
draw despite playing 9 men against 10 Italians.
One of the best games so far.
I have always downloaded MS WMSR as a self-extracting cabinet to the
desktop.
Each time I have updated this application, I have also tried for the guide.
Both are saved to the desktop prior to running.
Also the EULA is always accepted.
If you look here at this link
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=890830
In the body it states the requirements to install and use - this is what I
am told in the window that comes up after I download the guide and run it -
again from the desktop.
When I want to do a scan I click on the desktop icon, click on run and go
through the set procedure for a quickie or the longer scan.
At no time does anything appear to give access to the guide.
If I click on the desktop icon for the guide then click on run, then I get
the notification re an OS with American English.
I did quote the full message in the window.
I have re-read that above link and the info but can see nothing else that
might explain that it will not run, apart from that bit about American
English. Having said that, there was a lot in that link that sailed over my
head.

Antioch:

There appears to be only one English version ( as one would expect).
I wonder if you accepted the EULA, were able to download and save, and then
if you ran 890830.exe?
What was the exact message given?

Hi all,

I'm one of the Guided Help developers. Just wanted to let you know
that we're looking into these failures and actively watching the
feedback. As for your comment about closing the results screen, it's
something that sounds like we should introduce a new guideline for the
content authors. If you have questions or comments please feel free to
contact us directly at acwfeed at microsoft (dot com). Also look for
updates about what we're doing with Guided Help at
http://blogs.msdn.com/activecontentwizard/ (Active Content Wizard is
another name for Guided Help).

Thanks,

Hi James
It is nice to see the occasional MS chap/ess pop up and let us know what's
happening - to my mind it should be done more often.
I can take it that for now, this Guide only operates for those who use/speak
American English???

Hi Antioch,

It is English only, but I would not expect it to be US-English only.
I'll put this on our list of issues to look into.

Thanks,
James

Thank you James - it does seem a strange notification to get - sort of
discriminating as to which side of the 'little pond' one is.The below is a
quote from this link-

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/890830/

"Requirements to install and to use this Guided Help
. You must be logged on to Windows by using a computer administrator
account to install and to use this Guided Help.
. You must be running a United States English version of Windows XP
Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Media Center Edition, or
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition to install and to use this Guided Help.
You must first download Guided Help. To start, click the following link."

This confirms the notification I got when I tried to run the guide.
There is also a very good chance that I have done something wrong in the
download process - although I have not had any trouble with downloading
anything else (Yet!).

Antioch
P.S.
Where should I watch should there be any developments?
