I've picked up some malware that has progressively disabled links. For a
while I could use a link by right click>Open in new page. Now nothing. I run
Avast & Spybot and keep them updated. Spybot finds nothing. When I finally
ran a full scan, Avast found and deleted two infected files. However, the
problem remains. Does anyone recognize this nasty? Any suggestions or advice
will be gratefully received. TIA!

Have you tried using System Restore to restore the system to previous state
before the problem started ? No other way to fix because the malware has
touched Windows (functions)
Start->Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore and follow the
instructions to restore to some days before you got the problem/malware.

You need to make sure you are clean after the above .
