Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs > Remove AVG

Reboot

Control Panel> Add/Remove Programs > Add AVG

There is no easy way to prevent it running at startup, but clicking the
system tray icon opens a sheet that will allow you to "Close AVG Control
Center", and it will stay closed until next time you reboot.

The only other way to disable it is to remove the "Run" entry in the
registry, easy enough if you are used to the registry but not advised if you
are not...

I would prefer they had a "Start with windows" option but to be honest the
only reason you should need to stop it is to install software so you will
likely be restarting the machine anyway.

In addition, although one "Should" always disable AV software when doing
updates and stuff I've never seen AVG cause a problem with anything,
installs, updates, you name it. I don't advise this, I have test machines so
it doesn't matter if things get broken, that's the whole idea, but it's
useful to have some realistic idea about the effects in case it does happen
by accident.
