If you were  Registered and logged in, you could reply and use other advanced thread options
I had cause to use an old NT4 machine recently and installed Grisoft AVG to
scan it before use.

The scan revealed Sobig which was deleted but now I cannot connect to the
LAN.
I get the message
Error: 2: Renewing Adapter "E190x1"

I have removed and re-installed all of the network components and the driver
but to no avail.

Has anyone come across this or have any suggestions.

I don't see anthing in the Sobig Internet worm that would account for the
problem. It may
be pure coincidence.

You are absolutely right. This machine also had NewDotNet and it was that
which had caused the damage.

I ran this utility http://cexx.org/lspfix.htm

And all is now fixed. Thank you.

I was thinking on the lines of a Layered Service Provider but your post hadn't
any evidence
of a LSP based software. Next time I should go with my gut feeling.
