My husband recently returned from overseas but has had trouble with his
laptop shutting down, being very very slow and displaying pages not how they
ordinarily look. He had the Windows One Live Care on his computer but it was
not picking up any virus' or trojans. I ran the malicious software tool and
it did not pick up anything. I ran McAfee Virus Scan and it picked up a file
right away C:/777.htm. I searched for it in the C drive and found it. I don't
know how to get rid of it. I tried downloading updates from Microsoft and
apparently this thing is keeping me from it. It is also keeping me from
running the full McAfee program which I had purchased before the Windows Live
One Care. Can anyone help me to get rid of this? Thank you in advance.

To be honest,if you have made backups of all important
files(pictures, favorites, documents) on removable media,it might be
better to use the restore disks that came with the laptop and put it
back the way it was when you bought it.
For cleaning, see Virus Removal Instructions below.
After cleaning, there are other Anti-Virus programs that are better than
McAfee or One Care. Perhaps you can get a refund.
Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites.

I don't think it's quite time for the OP to wipe and start over.

Nancy - The very first thing to do is make sure all your data is backed
up to external media such as a usb external hard drive and/or CD/DVD-R's.

Then go through these general malware removal steps systematically -
http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/page2.html#Removing_Malware

Include scanning with David Lipman's Multi_AV, and follow instructions
to do all scans in Safe Mode.

When all else fails, run HijackThis and post your log in one of the
specialty forums listed at the link above (not here, please).

Standard caveat: If the procedures look too complex - and there is no
shame in admitting this isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA). Please be aware that not all local shops are skilled at
removing malware and even if they are, your computer may be so infested
that Windows will need to be clean-installed. Have all your data backed
up before you take the machine into a shop.

Always remember - only download files from Trusted Sites.

I have found that your average user can not cleanup their system very
well and a format/install is the fastest way to get them back up and
running.
